چکیده
Feed intake of ruminants is controlled either by the limits of physical capacity of the body or a multiplicity of coordinated physiological pathways which are largely energized by metabolites of food and neural feedback systems. Itwas found that physical and physiological factors regulating feed intake changed quantitatively with increasing digestibility of food. At low digestibility they were: physical capacity, rate of passage of undigested residue, and proportion of feed digested. At higher digestibilities intake depended on metabolic size, productive energy, and digestibility. [The SCI® indicates that this paper has been cited in over 145 publications since 1964.)

Sward Factors Influence on Pasture Dry Matter Intake of Grazing Dairy Cows: A Review
Successful pasture-based milk production systems pivot on balancing dairy cows’ feed requirements with seasonal and annual fluctuations in pasture production. In order to maximise cow production from grazing dairy systems, it is necessary to reach an efficient utilization of grazed grass for feeding cows and the development of appropriate grazing management systems designed to maximize daily pa...
متن کاملEffect of different levels of monensin in diets containing whole cottonseed on milk production and composition of lactating dairy cows
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of feeding different levels of monensin on feed intake, milk production and composition, and milk fattyacid profile in lactating Holstein cows. Four multiparous cows averaging 517 ± 47 (SD) kg in body weight and 101 ± 19.8 (SD) days in milk were housed individually in tie-stalls. The study was conducted as a 4 × 4 Latin square design for ...
متن کاملEffects of the Level, Type and Processing of Cereal Grains in Diets for Dairy Cows Feed Intake and Performance
Milk yield in dairy cows is directly dependent on their feed or energy intake. Due to genetic improvements, dairy cows have increased their potential for milk yield. This implies that the animal’s energy requirements are drastically increased. The presence of both physical and metabolic mechanisms for intake regulation and dynamic nature of lactating dairy cows has made ration formulation a cha...
متن کاملEffects of Feeding Rumen Protected Choline and Vitamin E on Milk Yield, Milk Composition, Dry Matter Intake, BodyCondition Score and Body Weight in Early Lactating Dairy Cows
Twenty four primiparous and multiparous Holstein cows on early lactation, beginning five weeks postpartum, were used for four weeks to investigate the effects of supplemention of rumen-protected choline (RPC) or vitamin E on milk yield, milk composition, dry matter intake, body condition score and body weight. The cows were randomly assigned to one of the following treatments: I)no supplement (...
متن کاملEffects of using Different Additives on Blood Metabolites, Digestibility of Nutrients and Production Performance of Dairy Cows
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of supplementation of probiotic and peri-biotic supplements in dairy cows on quantitative and qualitative yield of milk, feed intake, digestibility of nutrients, and blood metabolites. Forty Holstein dairy cows with daily milk production of 37 ± 5 kg and initial weight of 700 ± 40 kg were divided into four groups in a completely randomized ...
